Fines and Fees: Home

What happens if you don't bring a book back on time?

Lost Materials

If you keep a book longer than it's loan period, we send you two overdue notices to remind you. After this, we will send you a fine and fee statement.

If you cannot find an item or do not return it at all, we charge a fee to replace it. The fee depends on the type of item. We also charge a $5.00 processing fee.

Books : $35.00 for the replacement book.

Journals : $15.00

CDs, DVDs, and VHS : $40.00

Some items may cost more than our standard replacement fee, and we reserve the right to charge the actual replacement cost in those situations.

Borrowing privileges may be suspended until fines are paid.

All notices are sent by Heritage email.

Overdue Fines

If you keep a book or other item past its due date, you may owe a fine when you bring it back.

Fines depend on the item type. For all items except Interlibrary Loan items, there is a grace period of 2-4 days (depending on the type of item) before fines begin accumulating.

Books : $.25/day, 4 day grace period

Journals : $.25/day, 2 day grace period

CDs, DVDs, and VHS : $.25/day, 2 day grace period.

Interlibrary Loan items : $1.00/day, plus any fees the lending library charges, plus a $5.00 processing fee. The $5.00 processing fee only applies to ILL items brought back late.

The fine for each item maxes out at $5.00. If you owe more than $15.00, your borrowing privileges will be suspended until you have paid your fines.
