How To Use These Databases

Virtual Reference Library and Credo Reference are both search engines that look for your search words in many different encyclopedias and other reference books.

After you type in your search words and press enter, you will see a list a results, each marked with the particular book that it came from. Anything you find in these databases is credible, and you can trust the information you find here. That said, these are not peer reviewed articles.

Find Your Search Terms Here!

Encyclopedias, dictionaries, and other reference books are great places to find important words, ideas, and concepts that will be useful to you later in your research. Understanding what vocabulary experts in the field use to write about your topic can help you in later parts of your research.

Understanding related concepts, and how your topic fits into general medical knowledge, will also help your research as well as deepening your own understanding of your topic.

What Are These Databases For?

The resources on this page can give you basic information about medical concepts, ideas, treatments, conditions or diseases. For example, you could learn what causes a disease, how it spreads, what symptoms it causes, how it is treated, what complications can arise, and so on.

You can use the information you learn here in your paper, of course, but knowing these things will help you understand more technical sources, such as journal articles, written about your topic.
