Grad School Resources: Request From Another Library

ILL & Copyright

  • The copyright law of the United States (Title 17, United States Codes) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyright material.
  • Under certain conditions, specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction.
  • One of these specified conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be "for any purpose other than private study, scholarship, or research".  If a user makes a request for, or later uses, a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of "fair use", that user may be liable for copyright infringement.
  • The Heritage University North Library reserves the right to refuse a copying order if, in its judgment, fulfillment of the order would involve a violation of copyright laws.

FAQ

Is there anything you won't process?
We do not accept ILL requests for core textbooks. We are unable to process requests for newly released books or movies, or current bestsellers.

Can an ILL item be renewed?
We can put in a request for renewal, and ask that you call our ILL manager at (509)-865-8520 or email (liestman_d@heritage.edu) at least five days before the due date. If the lending library says no, the original due date applies. You will be charged standard fees for overdue and/or lost items.

What if an ILL item is late/lost?
ILLs have a fee of $1.00/day late charge, a $5.00 processing fee, and any fees or fines the lending library charges. Borrowing from other libraries will be suspended until fees/fines are paid in full.

What if I don't want/need the item when it arrives?
If a book or audiovisual media (DVD, audiobook, etc.) is not claimed within two weeks, the item will be sent back to the lending library. You will be charged a $5.00 processing fee for any unclaimed item(s).

How long does it take?

We process your requests as soon as we receive them. The length of time your request takes varies on the demand for the item, where it might be coming from, and how fast the librarian from the lending library processes your request. It can take as little as a couple of hours or as long as a couple of weeks. Rest assured, we do everything we can to make sure your requested item gets to you as soon as possible.

Can't find what you need?
