Library Tutorial: Unit 2: Finding Scholarly Articles

A tutorial for using various library resources, including Credo, Primo, Academic Search Premier, and others!

Definitions

Databases: large collections of journal articles, grouped in some way, usually by topic. Many databases have links to the full text of articles, although some mostly do indexing. Databases are the best place to find scholarly articles or research.

Peer Review: the process articles in scholarly journals go through. Experts on the topic the article is written about read and comment on it, and only the best articles are accepted and make it into the journal. Peer reviewed articles must be of high quality, and they always add new knowledge or information about their topic to the sum of human knowledge.

Unit 2: Goals and Objectives

Unit 2 focuses on how to find and locate scholarly or peer-reviewed articles in a database. The tutorial videos will demonstrate how to navigate a database and modify your search to produce a manageable amount of credible and relevant articles.

Once Unit 2 is completed, you will be able to search through multiple databases, including EBSCO and ProQuest provided databases; use search filters to limit the type of resources your receive; and conduct an advanced search to focus your search results.
