Citation Help: Chicago Style

This guide follows the Chicago Manual of Style, 16th edition.

Turabian style is a version of Chicago style meant for students to use. Most of the rules are the same, and many writers use both names interchangeably.

Your instructor may give you specific instructions on format or style. Always make sure you follow your instructor's guidelines.

Abstract?

An abstract is a summary of your paper in between 150 and 250 words.

You need to describe what your paper is about and what evidence or arguments you use in your paper.

You have very little room, so it is important to be efficient with language and summarize your paper as concisely as possible

What Font Do I Use? and Other Questions

Use margins of at least an inch.

Your paper must be in either 10 or 12 point font, double spaced. Times New Roman is a popular choice for font, but any font that is easy to read will work.

The first line of every paragraph must be indented, and indentation must be consistent.

Leave only one space between paragraphs.

Long Turabian/Chicago papers are often divided into parts or chapters with their own title. Use the same font and typeface for your titles. While traditionally parts or sections are in all capital letters, it is more important to be consistent, legible, and to follow any guidelines your instructor has given you.
